Classic Egg Omelette

Ingredients (Serves 1):

  • 2–3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk or water (optional, for fluffiness)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • Optional Fillings:
    • Grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
    • Diced vegetables (onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach)
    • Cooked meats (ham, bacon, sausage)
    • Fresh herbs (parsley, chives, or dill)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Egg Mixture:
    • Crack the eggs into a bowl.
    • Add milk or water (if using), a pinch of salt, and pepper.
    • Whisk vigorously until the mixture is fully combined and slightly frothy.
  2. Prepare the Pan:
    • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.
    • Add the butter or oil and let it melt, coating the bottom evenly.
  3. Cook the Omelette Base:
    • Pour the egg mixture into the pan.
    • Tilt the pan gently to spread the eggs into an even layer.
  4. Add the Fillings (Optional):
    • When the eggs start to set around the edges but are still slightly runny on top, sprinkle your desired fillings over one half of the omelette.
  5. Fold and Finish:
    • Use a spatula to carefully fold the omelette in half, covering the fillings.
    • Cook for another 1–2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the omelette is cooked to your liking.
  6. Serve:
    • Slide the omelette onto a plate and garnish with fresh herbs or a sprinkle of cheese.
    • Serve immediately with toast, salad, or fruit on the side.

Tips for the Perfect Omelette:

  • Use fresh, high-quality eggs for the best flavor.
  • Cook on medium-low heat to avoid browning the eggs too much.
  • Avoid overstuffing with fillings to keep the omelette intact when folding.
  • For extra fluffiness, separate the egg whites and yolks, whip the whites until soft peaks form, then fold them gently into the yolks before cooking.

Enjoy your light, fluffy, and delicious omelette!
